George Leon Thompson

George Leon Thompson, 75, of 558 County Line Rd. Ellerbe, died Monday, April 02, 2007 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Mr. Thompson was born October 5, 1931 in Montgomery County, a son of the late George and Monnie McInnis Thompson. He was of the Baptist faith, had served his country in the US Army, 82nd Airborne Division and was a farmer. Surviving are his wife, Magadeline Currie Thompson of the home, sons, Dennis Thompson of Reidsville, Doug Thompson of Ellerbe, daughters, Gale Keaton Rantonda of Aberdeen, Becky Smith of Lexington, Debbie Thompson-Whitis of Myrtle Beach, SC, Alice Taylor of Red Springs, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Billy Thompson of Rockingham, Carey Thompson of Ellerbe, sisters, Mary Blanche Black of Ellerbe, Clara Mae Robinson of Candor, Sarah Abrams of Rockingham and Helen Simmons of Ellerbe. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dick Stanford officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on County Line Rd.
