Ophelia Catherine Shaw Stutts, 85, of 2108 Brookbank Rd., Rockingham, passed away Sunday, February 27, 2011 at her home. Mrs. Stutts was born September 24, 1925 in Stanly County, NC, a daughter of the late Harry Price and Cora Lee Caudle Shaw. She was a member of Rourk Presbyterian Church where she had been a Sunday School teacher, member of the choir, Bible School teacher and past president and life member of the Presbyterian Women. She retired from Belk Department Store after 15 years of service. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Deborah Stutts, and brothers, Leroy Shaw, Paul Shaw and Ray Shaw. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Royce Stutts of the home; daughter and son-in law, Cathy and Dan Portaro of Durham, NC; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Carol Stutts of Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Gaetana Rampley and husband Kevin of Canton, GA, Capt. Jacob Portaro and wife Sarah of Monterey, CA, Jeffrey Portaro and wife Heather of Monroe, NC, Kim Stutts of Columbia, SC, Christian Stutts of Aiken, SC; great-grandchildren, Cora and Gavin Rampley, Marc, Noah and Alaina Portero; a sister, Edith McAuley of Ellerbe; and a brother, H.P. Shaw of Rockingham. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at Rourk Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Stone and Rev. Ladd Brearley officiating. Interment will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home on Brookbank Road.
