Nolan Lane Richardson

Nolan Lane Richardson, SFC, US Army (Ret) , 66, of Rockingham, died Tuesday, March 08, 2011 at Firsthealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Sgt. Richardson was born November 28, 1944 in Richmond County, NC, a son of the late S.H. and Lula Wilkins Richardson. His career was serving his country in the US Army, having served 2 years in Vietnam. He served in the XVIII Airborne Corps, was awarded the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Air Medal while serving in Vietnam. He retired from the US Army in 1987. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Ellerbe. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Norman, Otis and Curtis Richardson, Ernestine Richardson and Polly R. Glidewell. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Rhonda Richardson of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Jessica Immer, Ashley Richardson, Tyler Richardson, Nathaniel Richardson, Brayden Richardson; and sisters, Ellene Richardson of Ellerbe, Delano Williams of Biscoe, Jean Lasley and Faye Lovelace, both of Greensboro. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday in the Ellerbe Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery with full military honors. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
