Donald Edward Kinney, 73, of 163 West Church Street, Ellerbe, died Monday, March 14,2011 at his home. Don was born December 3, 1937 in Wayne County, Michigan, a son of the late Ted Devere and Helen Gertrude Adams Kinney. He was a graduate of Kalamazoo (MI) Central High School, Class of 1955, had served his country in the US Air Force and was in sales most of his working career. He enjoyed golf, his cars, model airplanes and model trains. He was a true fan of planes, trains and automobiles and loved to go to Laurinburg with the Tuesday Cruisers and show off his model trains. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Cardwell Kinney and a brother, Richard Franklin Kinney. Surviving are his son, Richard Devere Kinney of Bellingham, WA; daughter and son-in-law, Donna Lynn and David Hogoboom of Byron Center, MI; and grandchildren, Jennifer, Joseph, Asher and Christian. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 18, 2011 in the Ellerbe Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Brown, pastor of First Baptist Church Ellerbe, officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery with military honors. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home on West Church Street.
