Mrs. Wilma Simmons Snead, 69, of 111 Arville Dr., Rockingham died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Wilson Medical Center in Wilson. She was born May 19, 1937 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late William F. and Lourena Gibson Strickland. For many years, Mrs. Snead was a member of Roberdel Baptist Church. Prior to her disability, she was employed as a grocery store manager in Roberdel and farmed. Funeral services will be conducted graveside 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 9th at Eastside Cemetery with Rev. Mike Stirk and Rev. Frank McQuage officiating. Surviving are her husband, Pearl ‘Pug’ Snead of the home; daughter, Patricia Butler of Rockingham; son, Lester Simmons of Rockingham; sister, Virginia Crouch of Rockingham; brother, James Ledbetter Strickland of Charlotte; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mrs. Snead was preceded in death by her first husband, Arville Simmons, a sister, Elizabeth Kelly, and a brother, William Strickland. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at the daughter’s home, 532 Northside Dr., Rockingham.
