Mack Smith

Mack Smith, 83, of 618 Walnut Lane, Rockingham, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Mr. Smith was born January 22, 1924 in Richmond County, a son of the late George and Nellie Grant Smith. He had served his country in the US Army during World War II. He was a member and Deacon at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for many years and had retired from Beaunit/Avondale Mills as a supervisor. His brothers and sisters, Henry, Jerry, Carey, June and John Smith, Sarah Chavis and Jane Patrick preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Alta Clemmons Smith of the home, sons, Mitchell Smith and Mack Smith Jr. both of Rockingham, a daughter, Ann S. Grant of Rockingham, 9 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and a sister, Helen Smith of Wallace, SC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Eugene McNair officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors.
