James Henry “Jim” Maples, 61, of 1309 Ann Street, Rockingham, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 at his home. Mr. Maples was born June 30, 1949 in Richmond County, a son of the late Welford Olin and Maxine Henry Maples. He was a member of West Rockingham United Methodist Church, a graduate of Rockingham High School, Class of 1967, and had retired from Swink Oil Company after 36 years of service. He was preceded in death by his brother, Welford O. Maples, Jr. Surviving are his wife, Blaine Nuttall Maples of Rockingham; son, Scott Maples of Rockingham; daughters, Wendi Herndon and Megan Maples, both of Rockingham; brother, Wayne Maples of Gastonia; and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday at West Rockingham United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Dawkins officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park . The family will see friends at Carter Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday and at other times at the home on Ann Street. Memorials may be made to West Rockingham United Methodist Church, 217 W.
