Norma Faye Rhyne Stutts, 84, of Lawrenceville, VA, and formerly of Ellerbe, NC, died Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at Envoy of Lawrenceville in Lawrenceville, Va. after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Faye was born in Richmond County, NC, June 28, 1926 a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Italia Mills Rhyne. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Lee Stutts, brothers Robert Allen Rhyne and Martin Alexander “Sandy” Rhyne, brothers-in-law Glenn Stutts, Ray Stutts, and sister-in-law Ophelia Stutts. Faye was an active member of Ellerbe Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. She and Franklin were also active in the Gideon’s, in which she, at one time, was president of the Gideon’s Auxiliary of their camp. She and Franklin enjoyed many years working with the Lions’ Club, where she was a busy Lioness. She enjoyed the Community Concert Series of Richmond County and helped with memberships and ticket sales for many years. She worked as a bookkeeper at Rockingham Hardware for many years. Faye enjoyed her family, baking many a gigantic delicious meal for gatherings and was fondly know as the “bread-burner” of the family when she got so busy! She was an avid gardener and could often be found in her garden as soon as she returned from work. She would proudly can her vegetables, make jellies and jams, and share the fruits of her labor with friends and family. She enjoyed life, was always trying to help others, and her family and friends will sorely miss her and that twinkle in her blue eyes. She is survived by three children Michael Franklin “Mike” Stutts and wife Jeannie of Lenoir N.C., Marie S. Fields and husband Lewis of Lake Gaston (Littleton), N.C. and Leslie Lee Stutts and wife Katina of Winnabow, N.C., five grandchildren; Troy Stutts and wife Melissa of Lenoir, N.C., Adam Fields of Lake Gaston and Orlando, Fla, Molly and Kelsey Stutts of Ellerbe, NC and Kimberly Lockley of Winnabow, N.C., brother-in-law Royce Stutts, sisters –in-law Jean Stutts and Cathy Rhyne, many nieces and nephews, and her dear friends Ruby Cooke and Shirley Lassiter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 21, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Ellerbe with Dr. Rev. Jim Brown and Rev. John Stone officiating. Interment will follow at Rourk Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8PM at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe. Memorials may be made to Ellerbe Baptist Church, the Gideon’s, or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
