Sara Taylor

Mrs. Sara Steen Taylor, 88, of 140 School Street, Rockingham died Saturday, May 26, 2007 at her home. She was born December 3, 1918 in Ruby, SC, a daughter of the late Molly Horne and William Thomas Steen. Mrs. Taylor was a member of Cordova Baptist Church. She was retired from Richmond Community College, where she was the secretary to the President for thirty years. Prior to this, Mrs. Taylor was a legal secretary with Thomas Leath for a number of years and was employed with the Richmond County Clerk of Court office as a secretary. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Tuesday, May 29th in the chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham with Rev. Landis Lancaster and Rev. Joe Wilkes officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving are children, Mary Ann Deese, Jerry Taylor, Danny Miller, Lora McDuffie, Ann Weeks, and Donnie Miller; and a brother, Perry Steen of Concord. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jonah Taylor in March 2007, a daughter, Caryl Sue Gustafson, a son, Daryl Steen Taylor, and two brothers, Rev. Harold Steen and Clarence Steen. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home. The family requests memorials in memory of Mrs. Taylor be made to the youth programs of the each donor’s church.
