Luther Edward McRae

Heaven sent one of it’s best to earth on February 12, 1929 when Luther E. McRae was born, and Heaven called him home to eternal peace on June 18, 2011. “Luke” was pre-deceased by his wife, Marian, and his son-in-law, Butch Reynolds. He is survived by his daughter Linda Reynolds of Matthews, NC; daughter Karen Rickett and her husband, Paul, of Rockingham; grandson Andrew Reynolds of Matthews; granddaughter Emily Reynolds of Charlotte; and his loving companion Martha Hogan of Norman. A lifelong resident of Ellerbe, N.C., “Luke” graduated from Ellerbe High School. He proudly served in the US Army, completing a tour of duty in the Korean War in 1952-53. He was employed at Ellerbe Lumber Company for 30 years and was an active member of the Sandhills Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed 30 years of special times with "The Four Couples Club". Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, June 20 at Ellerbe First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Donald Daniel officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 in the church chapel. Burial will be at Ellerbe Cemetery immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to Ellerbe First United Methodist Church P.O Box 340; or Ellerbe Rescue Squad, 106 W. Page Street, Ellerbe, NC 28338.
