Larry Branson Chappell, 72, of 211 Vernon White Rd. Ellerbe, died Friday, June 22, 2007 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Larry was born June 3, 1935 in Richmond County, a son of the late Edmond Branson and Gertie Allred Chappell. He was a graduate of Ellerbe High School, Class of 1953, had served his country in the US Army and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Ellerbe. He was an avid fox hunter, a farmer, a Carolina fan, and an avid gardener who loved sharing his vegetables with family and friends. Surviving are his wife, Carol Ellerbe Chappell of the home, their children, Joie and Roger Tavener of Charlotte, Josh and Kim Chappell of Chapel Hill and Jon Chappell of Ellerbe, grandchildren, Owen Tavener, Katie Tavener, Alex Chappell, Wesley Chappell, and Elizabeth Chappell, Sisters, Marion Smith Covington and husband Thomas of Ellerbe and Effie Meacham and husband Jimmy of Ellerbe. A gathering of friends will be held from 2:00 – 4:00 PM Sunday in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe. At Larry’s request please dress casually. Larry requested no floral tributes be sent but that memorials be made to First Presbterian Church, Fellowship Hall Building Fund, P.O. Box 116, Ellerbe, NC 28338 or to Ellerbe Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 148 Ellerbe, NC 28338.
