Herbert Franklin King

Herbert Franklin King, 84, of 673 Pleasant Hill Church Rd, Ellerbe, died Monday, August 15, 2011 at his home. Mr. King was born August 15, 1927 in Surry County, NC, a son of the late Sam and Lizzie Martin King. He was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon, had been a member of the Rockingham Men’s Chorus, a former board member of the Richmond County Farm Bureau and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by a son Larry King. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Hazel Ritter King of the home; sons, Jimmy King and Gary King, both of Ellerbe; daughters, Delores Tyree of Franklin, KY, Janie Boyle of Ellerbe, Sarah Boles of Granite Falls, NC; 20 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3:00pm Thursday at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Rev. David Howard and Rev. Otis Goins officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on Pleasant Hill Church Road.
