Gilead, formerly of Rockingham, died Thursday, October 20, 2011 at his home. Mr. Parker was born December 8, 1955 in Richmond County, a son of the late Wilson and Agnes Elizabeth Odom Parker. He was a veteran of the US Army, a member of the DAV and the AmVets. He had been employed as a truck driver with Superior Crane prior to his disability. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Barmer. Surviving are his daughter Mandee Parker of Hamlet; 1 grandchild; brothers, Donald Parker, Tommy Parker and Curtis Driggers, all of Rockingham; and sisters, Gayle Spivey, and Linda Turner, both of Rockingham; step daughter, Haley Jarrell of Star and a step grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery with military honors.
