Jimmy Ray Sanford

Jimmy Ray Sanford, 72, of Rockingham, died Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at his home. Mr. Sanford was born May 19, 1939 in Richmond County, a son of the late Robert Lee and Ann McCaskill Sanford. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, PCA and a retired supervisor in the stainless steel industry. He was preceded in death by a son Mitchell Sanford, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Jean Layton Sanford of the home; son, Mark Sanford and fiancée Teresa Baxley of Rockingham; daughter, Angela S. Watkins and husband Paul of Rockingham; grandchildren, Kevin Sanford and wife Veronica, Katelyn Sanford, Alex Watkins and Caleb Watkins; great granddaughter, Tristan Sanford; brother, Joe Sanford of Rockingham; and a sister, Shirley Thompson of Decatur, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday at Covenant Presbyterian Church, PCA, with Rev. Jerry Straight officiating. Interment will follow in Northam Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, 217 Midway Rd.
