J. Clyde Jenkins

Joseph Clyde Jenkins, 90, of Rockingham, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Saturday, October 29, 2011 at his home. Mr. Jenkins was born August 7, 1921 in Richmond County, a son of the late Henry Clay and Dora McKenzie Jenkins. He had served his country in the US Army, in the Philippines, during World War II. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Rockingham, having served as a deacon, had been a member of the Rockingham Civitan Club, served on the Board of Directors of Richmond Memorial Hospital and a member of the VFW for over 50 years. He was a 32 degree Mason in the Rockingham Masonic Lodge #495, A.F. & A.M, a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, and a 50 year member of the Oasis Temple of the Shrine in Charlotte and the Oasis Jesters. Mr. Jenkins was the president of the family business, Jenkins Automotive and Industrial Supply in Rockingham. He was preceded in death by a brother, Leon Jenkins. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Ruth Marks Jenkins of the home; sons Joseph C. Jenkins, Jr and wife Rosamond of Greensboro, Franklin C. Jenkins and wife Patti of Ellerbe, Graham M. Jenkins of Rockingham; grandchildren, Lauren J. Seifried and husband Ethan of Decatur, GA, Tait Humphries and wife Leslie of Trinity, NC, Abbey Jenkins of Greensboro, Catherine Shelley and husband Ricky of Hamlet, Madison R. Jenkins of Rockingham; great grandchildren, Ella Shelley of Hamlet, Ty Humphries and Rachel Humphries of Trinity, NC; brother, Harry Jenkins of Trinity, Fl; and a sister, Nell Frye of Rockingham A service to celebrate the life of Clyde Jenkins will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Rockingham with Rev Dr. James Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park with Military Honors. A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5:00- 8:00 pm Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
