William Harry McDuffie, 86, of 903 Thomas St., Rockingham died Tuesday, July 31st at First Health Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. He was born July 22, 1921, a son of the late Bertha Boyette McDuffie and Lee McDuffie. Mr. McDuffie was a member of Community Church and was retired from Clark Equipment Co. with ten years in quality control. He was previously employed with J.P. Stevens with twenty-three years as a designer. Mr. McDuffie was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Army and being in one of the first groups to land on Utah Beach during the Normandy invasion. Funeral services will be conducted graveside 11:00 am Friday, August 3rd at Richmond Memorial Park with Rev. Robby Stewart officiating. Surviving are a son, Michael McDuffie of Rockingham; a daughter, Luanne McDuffie of Rockingham; a grandson, Mike (Tony) McDuffie of Rockingham; a great grandson, Sean McDuffie; and a sister, Jeanette Forbis of Rockingham; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. McDuffie was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva McDuffie in 1992, a sister, Gladys Lovin, and brothers, Arthur McDuffie and Gilbert McDuffie. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at the home on Thomas St. Memorial may be made to Community Church, 193 Mill Rd., Rockingham, NC 28379.
