Lonnie "Gene" Eugene Saunders, Jr.

Lonnie Eugene “Gene” Saunders, Jr., 60, of Rockingham, died Monday, January 23, 2012 at his home. Mr. Saunders was born June 24, 1951 in Richmond County, a son of Evelyn Stephenson Saunders Peek and the late Lonnie Eugene Saunders. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church, a member of the Richmond County Rescue Squad since 1970, and was retired from CSX Railroad. Surviving are his mother, Evelyn Stephenson Saunders Peek of Rockingham and a sister, Marlene Saunders of Albemarle. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Corey Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
