Nicholas Unuchek, 84, of Rockingham, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, February 02, 2012 following a brief illness. Mr. Unuchek was born September 19, 1927 in Luke, Maryland,a son of the late Nicholas and Blanche Kazmierczyk Unuchek. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. For 20 years he and his wife owned and operated Unuchek’s Exxon in South Fork, PA and later worked with Laurel Hill Paper Company in Rockingham. He was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Diven, Mary Riggs, and special brother-in-law, Rowe Miller. Surviving are his beloved wife of 60 year, Betty Yoder Unuchek of the home; daughters, Nicki Prieto and husband Michael, Jill Parody and husband Alex, all of Rockingham; grandsons, Nicholas Prieto, Oliver and Mason Parody; sister, Virginia Miller of Lavale, MD: brother, Joseph Francis of Cumberland, MD; and a special brother-in-law, Robert Locher of Laurel, MD. A service to celebrate the life of Nicholas Unuchek will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday at the Church of the Messiah in Rockingham, with Father Harry Abernathy officiating. Private interment will follow in Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen, NC. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
