After a recent celebration of 50 glorious years of marriage, Edwin Arthur Richardson and Margaret White Richardson, both 68, of Ellerbe, N.C., entered Heaven together on Tues., Feb 7, 2012. Edwin was born in Rockingham County on Dec. 9, 1943 to Arthur Green and Gladys Priddy Richardson. He was preceded in death by his father. Margaret was born in Patrick County, Va., on Dec. 20, 1943. She was preceded in death by both parents, Moir Columbus and Katie Mae Hayden White. The Richardsons were also preceded in death by their son-in-law, Todd McInnis. The Richardsons are survived by a son, Eddie Richardson, two daughters, Shelia Richardson McInnis of Norman, N.C., and Kristi Richardson King and husband David of China Grove, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Maxine McInnis , Samantha McInnis, Luke McInnis and Will King. Edwin is survived by his mother Gladys Priddy Richardson of Ellerbe N.C., brother Donnie Richardson and wife Sandra of Ellerbe, N.C., sister Linda Russell and husband Bobby of Ellerbe, N.C. Margaret is survived by her sister Betty Wilson of Derby, N.C., brother Joe Bill White and wife Elaine of Rockingham, N.C. Both life-long residents of Ellerbe and active members of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, the Richardson’s loved their family, community and were very active in both. Edwin began his career in 1966 with Southern Bell in Laurinburg, N.C. as a lineman. His career spanned over 45 years in the telecommunications industry. Following his retirement from Lucent Technologies, he began Richardson Communications. He put in 10 years as a Scout Master for the Boy Scouts of America in Ellerbe. He served and held memberships in numerous organizations including the Richmond County Agricultural Advisory Board, vice-president of the Richmond County Farm Bureau and member and part of the founding family of Price Richardson Hunt Club. Margaret worked for DeWitt Trucking and C & M Carriers as a dispatcher for more than 20 years. She, too, was involved in scouting, serving as a Girl Scout Leader for the Girl Scouts of America. For nine years, she was a volunteer with the Richmond County Hospice. She has served as treasurer of both Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and Mt. Pleasant Community Club. A celebration of their lives will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 1:00 pm First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Donald Daniel and Rev. Elizabeth Polk officiating. The family will see friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asked that donations be made to the Richardson Memorial Fund, c/o Fidelity Bank, P.O. Box 459 Ellerbe, N.C. 28338.
