Janie Byars Parris

Mrs. Janie Elizabeth “Granny” Byars Parris, 89, of 115 Shady Lane Rockingham, died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at her home. Mrs. Parris was born May 19, 1918 in Cherokee County , SC, a daughter of the late Edward Harrison and Anna Columbia Burgess Byars. For over 70 years she has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints, where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving in other capacities. She was a homemaker who loved to sew crochet and quilt. Her husband, Arthur W. Parris, a son, Stacy Edward Parris, a daughter, Betty Joyce Parris, 3 brothers and 2 sisters all preceded her in death. Surviving are her son, Arthur W. “Butch” Parris, Jr. and wife Lynn of Rockingham, daughters, Catherine “Kitty” Johnson, Jean Davis and husband Jimmy and Sybil Pattan and husband Bill all of Rockingham, a brother, Claude Byars of Gaffney, SC, 9 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday from The Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints with President Wes Newberry officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service at The Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints. Memorials may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints, 310 Roberdel Rd.
