Wanita Elizabeth Barry Chavis surrounded by her loving family left this world and entered Heaven on Friday, February 17, 2012. Born in Pinebluff, NC on January 9, 1925 to Harry E. and Grace Eldridge Barry. Her husband, James Lee Chavis, and step-son Earl Lee Chavis preceded her in death. A member of Cobb Memorial Baptist church and the Dorcus Sunday School Class. She was a former Post Commander of Chapter 59 of the DAV Auxiliary. She was a 1942 graduate of Rockingham High School. Before her retirement she owned and operated Rockingham Handbag Mfg. Company along with her husband James. Survivors include Son, Charles R. Chavis and wife Glennie of Hamlet, daughter, Myra Lea Singletary and husband Richard of Rockingham and Gloria Gaddy and husband Tony also of Rockingham. Step-sons Lester Chavis of Dillon S.C. and Bobby Chavis and wife Val of Rockingham. Her grandchildren, Eric Singletary of Aberdeen, Chris Singletary and wife Deanna, Melinda Murphy, Alan Harden and fiancée Lauren Earp, all of Rockingham and Lisa Chavis of Mooresville, 15 step-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Carter Funeral Home Colonial Chapel with Steven Millen officiating. Interment will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Carter Funeral Home
