Mary Blanche Thompson Black, 73, of Ellerbe passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at FirstHealth Hospice in Pinehurst. Mary Blanche was born December 28, 1938 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late George and Monnie McInnis Thompson. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, Ellerbe where she had served as church secretary, a Sunday school teacher, youth leader and both Church and State President of the Women of the Church. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She retired from Dewitt Trucking Company as a bookkeeper. Her brothers, Jack, David and Leon Thompson preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband of 40 years, William “Bill” Black of the home; sons, Thomas Craven and wife Terry of Rockingham, Barry Craven and wife Renee of Ellerbe; stepsons, Junior Black and wife Wanda of Jackson Springs, David Black and wife Penny of Candor; grandchildren, Courtney, Candace, Hannah and Brooke Craven, Katie Webster and husband Wesley, Casey and Paige Black, Sherry Mills and husband Alan; step grandchildren, Christy Parsons and Rob Ester. Also surviving are brothers, Bill Thompson and wife Joann of Rockingham, Carey Thompson and wife Sylvia of Ellerbe, sisters, Claire Robinson and husband Otho of Candor, Sarah Abrams and husband W.T. of Rockingham, Helen Simmons and husband Freddie of Ellerbe; sisters in law, Libby Thompson of Rockingham, Magadeline Thompson of Ellerbe and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, Ellerbe with Rev. James Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home.
