Albert Eli Shankle

Albert Eli Shankle, 87, of Ellerbe, died Friday, February 24, 2012 at Rockingham Manor in Rockingham. Mr. Shankle was born April 27, 1924 in Richmond County, a son of the late Herbert and Mishie Greene Shankle. He had served his country in the US Army during World War II and had retired as Parts Manager with Dewitt Trucking Company. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Broomes Shankle. Surviving are his wife, Lucy Belle Wilkins Shankle of the home; sons, Larry Shankle of Pinebluff, Bobby Pileggi of Chapel Hill, NC, Frankie Shankle and Ronald Shankle of Rockingham; daughters, Janice Shankle of Hamlet, Robyn Young of Ellerbe; 12 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Herbert Shankle, Jr. of Wadesboro, Bobby Ray Shankle of Star; step sons, Glenn Mabe of Ellerbe, Eddie Mabe of Pickens, SC; and step daughters, Annie Kate McFayden of Ellerbe and Debbie Robinson of Charlotte. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday at Northam Cemetery with Rev. Donnie Davis officiating. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Richmond County, 1119 N. US Hwy 1, Rockingham, NC 28379.
