Guy Lewis Overcash

Guy Lewis Overcash,83, of Ellerbe, passed away Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home following a long battle with cancer. Guy was born August 14, 1928 in Rowan County, NC, a son of the late Robert Arwell "Bub" and Mary Eunice "Nicey" Fowler Overcash. Following graduation from Winecoff High School in Concord he joined the United States Air Force. He was a member of Cannon Memorial Lodge #626, AF&AM, and the Scottish Rite Bodies. For many years he was involved with the family store, Overcash and Brown Grocery in the Concordia Community of Rowan County. Later he was employed with Linn-Corriher Mills in Landis, Borden Manufacturing Company in Goldsboro and retired from Royal Crown Bottling Company in Charlotte. Following retirement he and Reamel relocated to Richmond County, where he worked with Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by their oldest grandson, Kristopher Lee Hunsucker, his brother Ivey Overcash and his sister, Helen Brown. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Reamel Carpenter Overcash of the home; daughters, Cathy Overcash, Patsy Hunsucker and husband Mike; son Gary Overcash; grandchildren, Chandler and Zachary Overcash and great granddaughter, Brianna Guzalak Hunsucker. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 13, 2012 in the Ellerbe First United Methodist Church with Rev. Elizabeth Polk officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe,and at other times at the home on Capel Mill Road.
