James Edward “Pop” Chronister, 73, of Rockingham, passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 at his home. Pop was born December 23, 1938 in York Co., SC, a son of the late Coy Chronister and Loma Ashley Chronister Sharpe. He was a member of Abundant Life Church and had retired as a Tech Sergeant from the US Air Force. Following his retirement he worked with Bills Mobile Crane Service, the City of Fayetteville and McRae Electric. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Blanche Ard Chronister and his step-father, Curtis Sharpe. Surviving are sons, Michael E. Chronister and wife Aime of Cumberland, MD, Robert L. Novotney and wife Terri of Colorado Springs, CO, Stephen P. Novotney and wife Pauline of Cameron, NC; daughters, Ilene Russell and husband Bruce of Greer, SC, Karen Chronister of Apex, NC, Teresa L. Painter and husband Chris of Angier, NC, Lisa Royal of Elizabethtown, NC; a brother, Ricky Sharpe of Chester, SC; eighteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Thursday at Abundant Life Church with Rev. Joe B. Wilkes, Jr. officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow at 2 pm in Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday at Abundant Life Church and at other times at the home.
