Margaret Rorie Allen, 83, of Ellerbe, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2012 at her home. Mrs. Allen was born March 11, 1929 in Moore County, a daughter of the late John Sylvester and Minnie Freeman Rorie. She was a graduate of Rockingham High School, Class of 1947, a charter member of Crestview Baptist Church, where she had served on numerous committees including the cemetery and decorating committees and a volunteer at the Samaritan Colony. For many years she operated Margaret’s Day Nursery, the first licensed daycare facility in Richmond County. Later she worked with the unwed mother’s program at Richmond Senior High School and was an antiques dealer. She was preceded in death by her son, Ben C. Allen, Jr., a brother, John Rorie, Jr. and a sister, Zelma Griffin. Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Ben C. Allen of the home; son, Ron Allen and wife Patsy of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Stephanie Allen of Binghamton, NY, Paige Allen of Dallas, TX, Hunter Allen and wife Mary Beth of Dallas, TX; great grandson, Cameron Allen of Dallas, TX; a brother, Eugene Rorie and wife Sarah of Charleston,SC; and sisters, Fay Nichols and husband C.D. of Laurinburg and Maxine Gore of Laurel Hill. A service to celebrate Mrs. Allen’s life will be held at 11 am Wednesday at Crestview Baptist Church with Rev. Robby Stewart officiating. Interment will be held privately in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home.
