Loyde Mayo Middleton, 86, of Laurinburg, N.C., died April 3, 2012, at Scotia Village, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Rev. Middleton was born in 1925 in Marked Tree, Arkansas, to the late Alma and Grady Middleton. He received his education at Tennessee Technical University along with attending Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Rev. Middleton had an illustrious career. He was an ordained minister with the United Methodist Church Organization and served as a missionary to Bolivia 1947-1968. After returning to the United States in 1968, he joined the Virginia Conference until 1990, when he retired to Huntington, West Virginia and more recently Rockingham, N.C., before moving to Scotia Village. Rev Middleton is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Sarah L. Middleton, and their children, James Middleton of Atlanta, Georgia, and Dr. Patricia Middleton of Rockingham, N.C. James’s family includes his wife, Dr. Lynne Wilcox, and two children, Martin Middleton of Los Angeles, California, and Jennifer Middleton, of Cambridge, Massachusetts. The family also includes Rev. Middleton’s adopted daughter Ann Hudson of Rockingham, and her children Amy and Robbie. The family will gather at the home of Dr. Patricia Middleton in Rockingham, N.C. Services will be held Friday, April 06, 2012 at 2:00PM at the First United Methodist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Mike Sykes officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
