Gary R. Duty

Gary Duty Gary R. Duty, 72, of Rockingham, died Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at his home. Mr. Duty was born April 3, 1940 in Lawrence County, Ohio, a son of the late Fred and Edith Flora Duty. He had served in the United States Marine Corps, was a member of the Marine Corps League, attended Rockingham Wesleyan Church and had retired from Vulcan Materials. He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are his wife, Wilma Legg Duty of the home; son, Gary L. Duty of Hamlet; daughter, Diane L. Jordan of Rockingham; 2 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and sisters, Faye Fike of Ruskin, FL, Merrinell Vance of Fredricksburg, VA, Jane Noble of Burlington, OH, Sandra Dalton of Burlington, OH, Eleanor McClure of Sterling Heights, MI, and Ida Humphrey of Knoxville, TN. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 11 am in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Phil Huber officiating. Interment will be private. The family will see friends following the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, 1121 Rice Street, Hamlet, NC 28345.
