Doris Grant Murphy. 78, of 610 Walnut Lane, Rockingham died Sunday, September 16, 2007 at Rockingham Manor in Rockingham. She was born February 21, 1929 in Marlboro County, SC, a daughter of the late Henry and Hattie Chavis Grant. Mrs. Murphy was a member of Highland Acres Church of God. She was retired with Hornwood in Lilesville, after working many years in the children’s department with J. C. Penney Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 19th at Highland Acres Church of God with Rev. Tim Campbell and Rev. Chris Swiatocho officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving are; a daughter. Nancy Nuttall and husband Dale of Rockingham; a son, Timothy Murphy of Rockingham; a brother, Dewey Grant and wife Ethelene of Greensboro; sisters, Lucille Boone of Hamlet, Alma Quick of Rockingham, Gracie Graham and husband James ‘Bo’ of Hamlet, and Alice Moore of Concord; three grand daughters, Kerri Brown and fiancé Jamie Tucker of Thomasville, Jessica and Bryan Cloninger of Ellerbe, and Jaclyn Murphy and Anthony Crumbley of Atlanta; two step-grandsons, Jared and Eli Nuttall of Sacramento, CA, and one great grand daughter, Kaleigh Paige Cloninger. Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, Retired Tech. Sgt. Howard Murphy, in 2000, and Rev. Joe Boone, Pete and Betty Murphy, Carl and Mable Luther, Silas ‘Dude’ Quick and Jenny and Henry Brown Memorials may be made to Highland Acres Church of God, PO Box 875, Rockingham, NC 28380. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Online condolences may be made to www.carterfuneral.net. We already miss her.
