Colon Edward McFayden, 88, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Mr. McFayden was born January 24, 1924 in Richmond County, a son of the late Colon Alexander and Etta Freeman McFayden. Colon was an active and faithful member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an Elder, a member of the Session, had been a Sunday School teacher and had served on many committees. He served his country in the US Army during World War II and had been a member of Elberta Masonic Lodge 654, A.F&A.M for over 50 years. Colin was an avid gardner, and prior to his retirement was co-owner of Ellerbe Poultry Company. He was preceded in death by a son, Lynn McFayden, a brother, Ralph McFayden and a sister, Mary Jean McFayden. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Gladys Ballard McFayden of the home; sons, Don (Ann) McFayden of Ellerbe, Darrell (Kay) McFayden of Hamlet; grandchildren, Kenny (Misty) McFayden, Amy (Doug) Goins, Eric (Amanda) McFayden, Angela ( Kelly) Wallace; great grandchildren, Noah McFayden, Dillon Barbour, Caylie Barbour, McKenzie McFayden, Brandon McFayden, Tyler Blake, Kyleigh Yow, Travis Yow; brothers, Harold McFayden, Willard McFayden and Robert McFayden, all of Ellerbe; sister, Lillian Sherrill of Ellerbe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Edsel Huffstetler and Rev. Kevin Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Mt.
