Geneva Wilson

Bertie Geneva Austin Jenkins Jackson Wilson, 89, of Hannah Pickett Avenue slipped away peacefully Friday at Richmond Pines. She is survived by daughters Margaret Payne of Rockingham and Janice Cox of Sanford; three grandchildren Bill Payne and wife Shana of Rockingham, Karen Crowley of Waynesboro, VA, and Kimberly White and husband Phillip of Orange, CA; and four great-grandchildren Julia Schmidt and husband Michael of Japan, Jacob and Isaiah White of Orange, CA, and Liam Crowley of Waynesboro, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, William M. Jenkins, Jr. and by husbands Rev. J. J. Jackson and Rev. James Wilson; by sons Dale Keith and Jerry Jenkins; and by great-granddaughter Corban White. She was secretary of Stanley Bakery in Rockingham and later employed by Burlington Industries of Cordova for 36 years, retiring in 1986 as secretary to the Vice President of Texturing. A 1940 graduate of Rockingham High School, Geneva will be remembered fondly by her family and friends as unwaveringly loyal, loving, straightforward, and uncommonly generous. She was discovered purchasing burgers daily from McDonalds to feed an abandoned dog who could not be apprehended. She was a devout Christian serving for years as church secretary-treasurer and Sunday School teacher. In her later years, she attended her neighborhood church, First Pentecostal Holiness Church in East Rockingham. The funeral will be conducted June 10 at 3:00 P.M. by Rev. Harris Jordan at Carter Funeral Home with family visitation from 2:00 P.M. to 2:45 P.M. Burial will be at Eastside Cemetery
