Herman Wiggins

Herman Leroy “Shorty” Wiggins, 76, of 171 Broadway Street, Rockingham died Saturday June 16, 2012 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. He was born June 20, 1935 in Richmond County, NC the son of the late Herman and Pauline Cashwell Wiggins. He retired as a Staff Sergeant from the US Army after 24 years of Service. Shorty served in the Marine Corps and the Navy prior to joining the Army, he was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He is survived by his fiancée Tonya Evans of Rockingham, son, Lee Bowman and wife Suzanne of Concord, daughters Diane Wiggins and husband Jeff of Charlotte and Sharon Wiggins also of Charlotte, Sisters; Anna E. Callahan of Rockingham and Bunny Christianson and husband Chris of Fayetteville. Also surviving are six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted with military honors at 12:00 noon Wednesday June 20, 2012 at Carter Colonial Chapel in Rockingham, Rev. Randy Gary will officiate. Entombment will follow at the Richmond Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7-9:00pm Tuesday evening at Carter Funeral Home and other times at the home on Broadway Street.
