Sallie Mae Roberts McInnis, 103, of Ellerbe, affectionately known as “Mama Mae” to her family, passed away Tuesday, July 03, 2012 at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital in Rockingham. Mrs. McInnis was born December 2, 1908 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late John Eugene and Minnie Cole Roberts. She attended school in Norman and Ellerbe. Mrs. McInnis was a homemaker and volunteered her services to her church, community, The American Red Cross and Ellerbe Lioness Club. She was the oldest member of the First Presbyterian Church, PCA, in Ellerbe where she served as President, Secretary, Treasurer and Historian of the Women in the Church and was a member of the choir for many years. In 1984, Mrs. McInnis was awarded a Life Membership to the Women in the Church from the Synod of North Carolina. Mrs. McInnis was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) M. McInnis and siblings, William Roberts, Eugene Roberts, Sidney Roberts, Henry Roberts, Lillian Roberts McNair and Minnie Lou Roberts McLeod and a niece, Linda McLeod. She is survived by her son, John Meredith (Rig) McInnis and wife, Barbara Russell McInnis;a grandson, Robert M. McInnis and wife, Pam; a granddaughter,Dawn McInnis Snead and husband Robbie, all of Rockingham; three great-granddaughters, Meredith Baily Barber and husband,Will of Ellerbe, Lindsay McInnis Thomas and husband, Joel of Holly Springs, and Maggie McInnis of Rockingham; a great, great-granddaughter, Madelyn Grace Barber of Ellerbe; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth McInnis of Ellerbe; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday at First Presbyterian Church, PCA in Ellerbe with Rev. James Watson and Rev. Edsel Huffstetler officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on Church Street, Ellerbe.
