Mrs. Dorothy Edwards Hudson, 89, formerly of 527 Stanley Avenue , Rockingham, died Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at Salemtowne Retirement Center in Winston Salem. She was born April 18, 1918, in Columbus Co., a daughter of the late William and Nola Gowan Edwards. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rockingham, where she taught children’s Sunday school and the Sunbeam Children’s Program for many years. She was a member of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union and the Lydia Sunday School class. Mrs. Hudson was a graduate of the James Walker Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Wilmington, and worked there for a short time, before moving to Rockingham where she did private duty nursing. Mrs. Hudson was a member for 23 years of the North Carolina Federated Women’s Civic Club and performed as corresponding secretary. She was a member and officer of the Home Extension Club, and a member and past president of the 76 Literary Arts Club. She was active in the efforts of the Bloodmobile and the PTA at L. J. Bell Elementary School. Surviving are her daughter, Judy H. Pratt, and husband John of Burlington; two sons, Vance Eric Hudson of Charlotte and William Herbert Hudson and wife Susan of Winston Salem; a grandson, Brian W. Pratt, and a granddaughter, Ericka Hudson Shaw. Mrs. Hudson was preceded in death by her husband, Vance L. Hudson, in February, 2001; two sisters, Clara E. Andrews of Chadbourn and Lollie Smith of Cerro Gordo; and brothers, Earl Edwards of Fair Bluff and Fred Edwards of Shallotte. Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 pm Saturday, October 20th at First Baptist Church in Rockingham with the Rev. Dr. T. David Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Visitation will be Friday, October 19th from 6pm-8pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham.
