Funeral services for Mr. Charles Floyd (Charlie) Meacham, Sr., 88, will be conducted 3:00 pm Sunday, October 28, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham with Rev. Keith Nanney and Rev. Leonard Mayo officiating and interment at Eastside Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Mr. Meacham died Friday, October 26th at Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation. Mr. Meacham was born September 14, 1919 in Rockingham, the son of the late Jessie Edward and Lula Allred Meacham. He graduated from Rockingham High School in 1939 and entered Embry Riddle Aeronautical College Cadet Officers training program. In January 1942, he was commissioned in the US Army Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant and served as a pilot in the 20th Ferrying Group, Air Transport Command in China, Burma, India theater stationed in Mohanbari, India until 1945. He was employed by Resort Air Lines from Jan. 1946 through Jan. 1949, and with Piedmont Air Lines from Jan. 1949 until his retirement in Sept. 1979. Mr. Meacham was a life long member of First United Methodist Church and the Ledbetter Men’s Bible Class. He was a member of the Rockingham Cotillion Club and has served on the Rockingham City Board of Adjustments and Appraisals. Surviving are his wife, Peggy McNair Meacham; son, Charles F. (Chuck) Meacham, Jr and wife Joan of Rockingham; daughter, Marianne M. Crawford and husband Jim of Cheraw, SC; grandchildren, Amy M. Taylor (Shawn) and Melanie M. Meacham, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Charles F. Meacham, III of Rockingham, James C. Crawford, IV and Cameron M. Crawford, both of Cheraw; one great grand daughter, Sloan M. Taylor; a brother, Henry A. Meacham, and several nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 410 E. Washington St., Rockingham, NC 28379. Online condolences may be sent to www.carterfuneral.net.
