Joseph Berry (J.B.) Thompson, 90, passed away Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Rockingham Manor. Mr. Thompson was born May 8, 1922 in Bladen County to the late E.T. and Ina Taylor Thompson. J. B. was a proud Navy veteran, having served on the USS Bunker Hill during World War II. He had retired from Burlington Industries and was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Covington Thompson and a sister, Louise Kelly. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Thomas and husband Butch, a grandson, Benjie Thomas, a great granddaughter, Hailey Thomas Ledwell and a great great grandson, Draylin Thomas. Also surviving are four sisters; Joyce Young, Dot Meshaw, Lorene Turner and Janelle Thacker, and most of all his beloved dog, Tripp. A graveside service to celebrate J.B.’s life will be conducted at 2:00 pm Tuesday at Richmond County Memorial Park with Rev. Brian Blackwell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
