Joseph Byars “JB” McGuire. Sr. of 1813 Sandcrest Drive, Rockingham, died Monday, December 10 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham. He was born in Bristol, VA August 6, 1962, the son of the late Mr. Charles Johnson McGuire, Sr. and Mrs. Mary Jane McGuire of Rockingham. Mr. McGuire is survived by his wife, Lenae Riggan McGuire; a son Joseph, and two daughters, Ashley and Meagan of the home. He has two surviving brothers, Miles Stevenhagen of Rockingham and Fred Stevenhagen of Nashville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Jack Riggan and wife, Marla of Nashville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Johnson McGuire, Jr. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rockingham where funeral services will be conducted Thursday, December 13 at 3 p.m. with The Rev. Keith Nanney and the Rev. Allison Coltrane officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. Mr. McGuire was associated with many radio stations in North and South Carolina and Virginia after beginning his career in radio at age nine with his father. They later owned together radio stations, magazines, and newspapers in the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. He was the founder and owner of Voices of America, a local advertising and “voice over” business. He also worked with G104 FM in Rockingham. “JB” was a loving husband, father, and friend to all who knew him. He was a positive person, always upbeat and the “life of the party”.
