Greyard Byrne “GB” Lamm, 89 of W. Sunset St., Ellerbe, died Thursday, January 03, 2008 at The Hermitage Retirement Center in Rockingham. Mr. Lamm was born July 18, 1918 in Robeson County, a son of the late George B. and Mary Frankie Pipkin Lamm. He attended school in Wilson and Maxton, graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1941 with his undergraduate and Masters Degree. He also attended Duke University, the University of Las Vegas, New Mexico, the University of Redlands, Redlands,California and Appalachian State University. He served his country in the Army Air Corps serving 52 months in Australia and the South Pacific during World War II. He returned to North Carolina in 1945 and married Virginia Todd, who preceded him in death in 1998. His 37 year career as a principal began in Lilesville that same year. He also was principal in Peachland, Creedmore, spent 6 years in Biscoe and for 24 years was principal of the Ellerbe School. He was a member of the Lions Club for 60 years, having served as president of the Ellerbe Lions Club, Zone Chairman, received the Jack Stickley award and the Melvin Jones Fellowship. He was a 32 degree Mason of the Elberta Lodge #654 A.F.& A.M., the Scottish Rite Bodies and the Oasis Temple of The Shrine. Mr. Lamm was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe where he was Elder Emeritus and a Trustee, had taught Sunday School for over 50 years and had served as Clerk of the Session. He was also the Chaplain of the former Ellerbe VFW. Surviving are his son, Greyard Robert “Bob” Lamm and wife Debbie of West Bloomfield, MI, his daughter, Beth Lamm Richardson and husband Jimmy of Derby, his grandson, Jimmy Christopher Richardson and wife, Brandi of New Bern, and his great grandchildren, Makenzie Nichole and Jayden Christopher Richardson both of New Bern. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Ellerbe with Rev. James B. Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery with Masonic graveside rites. The family will see friends from 1:00 –2:45 PM Sunday in the fellowship hall of First Presbyterian Church and at other times at the Richardson home, 1461 Derby Rd., Jackson Springs.
