Patrick Clinton Dorsey, 93 of Ellerbe passed away Sunday, November 25 at Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Patrick “ P. C.” Dorsey was born June 21, 1919 to Patrick Albert Dorsey and Nona Kelsay Dorsey in Bakersfield, California. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Washington. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy and enjoyed a distinguished career as an aviator and an intelligence officer. He retired in 1963 at the rank of commander and then moved to North Carolina to become a pilot with the North Carolina Forest Service. After a year he moved to Vietnam to fly for Air America throughout Southeast Asia. In 1969 he returned to North Carolina and resumed work as a district pilot. He flew for the Forest Service well into 1990’s. During his long career he lived in Korea, Okinawa, Morocco, Vietnam and Thailand, throughout the United States and in Kinston, New Bern, Pinehurst and Ellerbe, North Carolina. He was particularly enthusiastic about automobiles and was an avid hunter and shooter. P.C. Dorsey was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Patric Griffee Dorsey. He is survived by sons Sam, Boyce and Robert and grandchildren Ella Vail, Charles Cole, Charles Spencer and Aimee Claire. The family is grateful for the loving care of P.C. provided by Pinehurst Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and especially the love and comfort shown to him by Candace Kelly.
