Anne Smith Saunders

Mrs. Anne Smith Saunders, 85, of Charlotte, formerly of Rockingham, died Monday, January 21, 2008 at Lawyers Glen Retirement Center in Charlotte. Mrs. Saunders was born February 13, 1922 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Luther and Annie Mae Hasty Smith. She was a member of Matthews United Methodist Church and previously of Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Rockingham. For many years she was the bookkeeper for Bob’s Cleaners in Rockingham, worked with Family Dollar Stores and had been the Resident Manager of Coventry Woods Apartments in Charlotte. Her brother and sisters, Archie Smith, Lois Fowler, Corene Yandle and Sadie Huntley, preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband of 65 years, Wilbur Saunders of Charlotte, daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and David Paul of Mint Hill, Brenda and Mickey Brigman of Matthews, and her grandson, Kevin Brigman of Matthews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Colonial Chapel of Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Interment will follow in Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to Matthews United Methodist Church, 801 S.
