William Davis Bowles, 66, of Ellerbe, an avid fisherman and car enthusiast, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 in a boating accident on Badin Lake. Bill was born November 27, 1946 in Moore County, a son of Shirley Haywood Bowles and the late William James Bowles. He was a graduate of Ellerbe High School and Kings College and had served in the US Army Reserves. Bill was a member of Ellerbe Fellowship Baptist Church and had retired from Primax Construction as Project Manager. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara P. Bowles in 1999. Surviving are his wife, Cathy Morse Bowles of the home; daughter, Stephanie B. Hough and husband Jay of Southern Pines; grandchildren, Jason Hough, Gracie Hough and Courtney Hough of Southern Pines, Carly Harris of Rockingham; mother, Shirley Bowles of Ellerbe; brother, Jimmy Bowles and wife Mary of Ellerbe; nephew, Patrick Bowles of Raleigh; and step-daughters, Angela Carpenter and husband Michael of Hamlet and Crystal Harris and husband Jason of Rockingham. A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held at 4 pm Friday at Ellerbe Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Kevin Thompson officiating.
