Lewis Alexander Dutton, of Rockingham, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 at the age of 93. Mr. Dutton was born November 18, 1919 in Anson County, a son of the late Charles Marshall and Hattie Freeman Dutton. He was a member of Long Pine United Methodist Church and had attended East Rockingham Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 691/2 years , Lena Wilkes Dutton, a son, Lewis A. Dutton, Jr, brothers, Raymond, Samuel, William, Marion and Walter, sisters, Mary Adams, and Ina Sellers England, and son-in-law, Austin Carter. He had retired after a long career in farming and textile management. He enjoyed a simple life but was oh so wise. Christian Values were lived as he displayed integrity, honesty, acceptance, humility, love of learning and support of family. Teaching by example, he positively influenced the lives of his family and friends. Surviving are sons, Eddie (Darlene) Dutton of Spartanburg, SC, Jerry (Sandra) Dutton of Havelock; daughters, Faye Carter and Barbara (James “Pete”) Britt , all of Rockingham; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; brothers, John Henry Dutton of Sanford, Marvin Dutton of Pageland, SC; sisters, Ruth Lill of Rockingham, Martha Richardson Scott of Garner and sister-in-law, Evelyn Dutton of Peachland. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm Tuesday in the Chapel of Carter Funeral Home with Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating. Interment will be held privately.
