Ruth Robinson Powell, 80, of Hamlet, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. Ruth was born December 4, 1932 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late McLean and Fronnie Clark Robinson. She was a lifelong member of the East Rockingham Pentecostal Holiness Church and a minister in the South Carolina Conference of the Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Halley Cleveland “Tom” Powell, an infant daughter, seven sisters and four brothers. Surviving are son, Steve Powell of Hamlet; daughters, Betty Pomeroy and husband Al of Atlanta, GA and Rachel Powell of Hamlet; grandchildren, Stefanie, Daphne and Tiffany Youngblood, Alex, Emilie and Connor Powell, Lisa Buckner, Whitney Degnan; great grandchildren, McKenzie, Mason, Amber and Anthony. Also surviving are sisters Martha Peele and Juanita Bourgeois, both of Hamlet and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at First Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Steve Powell, Bishop Douglas Amos and Bishop Greg Amos officiating. Interment will follow in the Clark Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
