Van Chappell Rush, 82 of 201 Clayton Carriker Rd. Ellerbe, died Monday, February 18, 2008 at his home. Mr. Rush was born June 15, 1925 in Montgomery County, a son of the late Thomas Boone and Belle Chappell Rush. He had served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Ellerbe, a retired Auto Mechanic and also retired from Clark Equipment Company. For over 20 years he was associated with the Ellerbe and Mt. Creek Volunteer Fire Departments and was a former chief of both. His son, Doyle Van Rush , his brothers, Edward, Paul, Ollie and Leon Rush, and his sisters, Jessie McInnis and Lois Treece, all preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Sarah Nichols Rush of the home, son, Tony Rush of Rockingham, daughter, Tammy Rush of Seven Lakes, 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Vera Davis of Asheboro and Sarah Williams of Aiken, SC. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Ellerbe with Rev. Dr. Jim Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home on Clayton Carriker Rd. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, General Fund, P.O. Box 8, Ellerbe, NC 28338 or to Richmond County Hospice, 1119 US Hwy 1 N. Rockingham, NC 28379.
