Margie Kanipe Boan Smith

Margie Ann Kanipe Boan Smith, 75, of Aberdeen, formerly of Rockingham, passed away Friday, February 1, 2013 at KingsWood Nursing Center in Aberdeen. Margie was born April 2, 1937 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Frank Kanipe and Mattie Melton McDuffie. She was a charter member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and had retired from Belk Department Store in Rockingham. She enjoyed working with the Richmond County Board of Elections, was an avid reader, loved Beach music, loved to dance and was a member of the Sandhills Shag Club. Margie was a warm, friendly outgoing person who was loved by all who knew her. Surviving are her daughters, Yvonne Boan Grady of Southern Pines, Lorraine Boan Zigovsky and husband Christopher of Pinehurst; her son, Lewis Boan and wife Anita of Fletcher, NC; grandchildren, Tommy Woolard, Casey Woolard, Brent Conner, Bryan Conner, Martin Zigovsky, Melanie Boan, Madison Boan; and sixteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Sunday at Pine Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Corey Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Saturday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham. Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 275 Airport Rd., Rockingham, NC 28379.
