James E. “Jim” Hinson, 89, of Rockingham, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2013, surrounded by his loving family, at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. Jim was born October 22, 1923 in Marlboro County, SC , a son of the late Marshall Shelton and Cora Norris Hinson. He served his country in the US Army during World War II and was a faithful attendant of the East Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe Norris, Earl Hinson and Robert Hinson. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Louise Gathings Hinson of the home; son, Richard L. “Rick” Hinson and wife Dianne of Rockingham; daughter, Karen G. Stogner and husband Larry of Hamlet; grandchildren, Chad Hinson and wife Amy of Rockingham, Jill Hinson, Jeremy Hollingsworth, Emma Stogner and Meredith Stogner, all of Hamlet, and Ian Hollingsworth of Wilmington; and great-grandchildren, Alex Brown, Matthew Brown, Addyson Hollingsworth, Cameron Hinson and Caroline Hinson. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Wednesday at the East Rockingham Church of God of Prophecy with Rev. Steve Gilmer and Rev. Nic Jackson officiating. Entombment will follow in the Richmond County Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Honors. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
