Gladys Ballard McFayden, 89, of Ellerbe, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at FirstHealth Hospice House in Pinehurst. Mrs. McFayden was born November 25, 1923 in Cabarrus County, NC, a daughter of the late James S. and Bertha Deaton Ballard. Gladys was an active and faithful member of Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Colon Alexander McFayden, a son, Lynn McFayden and a brother James S. Ballard, Jr. Surviving are sons, Don (Ann) McFayden of Ellerbe, Darrell (Kay) McFayden of Hamlet; grandchildren, Kenny (Misty) McFayden, Amy (Doug) Goins, Eric (Amanda) McFayden, Angela ( Kelly) Wallace; great grandchildren, Noah McFayden, Dillon Barbour, Caylie Barbour, Briar Goins, McKenzie McFayden, Brandon McFayden, Tyler Blake, Kyleigh Yow, Travis Yow. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin Thompson officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at Don and Ann’s home, 198 Derby Way, Ellerbe. Memorials may be made to Mt.
