Phyllis Eloise Rummage McDonald, 76, of Ellerbe passed on in peace to be with her Lord, Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill after a long illness of Crohn’s Disease and Sclerosing Cholangitis. Phyllis was born May 23, 1931 in Ellerbe, NC a daughter of the late Willie “Bud” Harris and Pearlie Mae Moore Rummage. She graduated from Ellerbe High School in Ellerbe, NC and Catawba College in Salisbury, NC. She had a long career with Southeastern Asphalt and Concrete Co. before working with Long’s Travel Agency and retiring from First Wheat Security in Southern Pines. She had a strong Christian faith, was a faithful servant of the Lord and an active member of her church. For many years she was a member of and organist for Jones Springs United Methodist Church, and for the last several years she was a member of Marcus United Methodist Church. Her sister, Irene Hancock and a stepson, David McDonald preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband, Ivan D. McDonald, Sr. of the home, a son Tim Taylor of Edenton, a daughter, Jackie Taylor Roughton and husband Billy of Rockingham, a step daughter, Kaye Murdaugh of Shallotte, a brother, Harris Rummage of Ellerbe, 6 step grandchildren and 7 step great grandchildren. Phyllis was a beautiful lady who was strong-willed and met any obstacles she encountered in life head on and worked thru them. She was a strong believer in never giving up, She always saw things through to the end no matter how hard it was to get there. Phyllis was a very dedicated, caring and loving daughter to her parents and she devoted much of her life to taking care of her mother. She was also a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. She was a blessing to all whose lives she touched. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Marcus United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Burns and rev. Bob Carpenter officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. The family will see friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe and at other times at the home of Jones Springs Church Rd. Candor, NC 27229.
