Herbert McCormick

Mr. William Herbert McCormick, 79, of 161 Puckett Rd., Ellerbe died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital. He was born February 2, 1929 in Ellerbe, a son of the late John William and Laura Jane Talbert McCormick. Mr. McCormick was a farmer and had worked as a machinist with CSX Railroad and worked previously as a mechanic with Commonwealth Hosiery Mill. He served in the U. S. Army. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday, March 15th at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe with Rev. John Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Ellerbe Cemetery. Surviving are a son, William H. McCormick, Jr. and wife Jatana of Rockingham; two daughters, Debbie M. Smith and husband Cecil of Ellerbe and Lisa M. Haywood and husband Rodney of Norman; ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; three sisters, Louise Lucas, Peggy Webb, and Agnes Treece, all of Ellerbe; six brothers, Joe McCormick, Robert McCormick, Jerry McCormick, all of Ellerbe and Max McCormick, Johnny McCormick, and Doran McCormick, all of Cheraw, SC. Mr. McCormick was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Puckett McCormick, a grandson, James Michael Heavner, and siblings, Lucille Faircloth, Frank McCormick, Bill McCormick, and Marion McCormick. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Ellerbe.
