Mrs. Glendora ‘Glennie’ Fay Humber Bowles, 80, of 423 Leak Street, Rockingham died Saturday, March 15, 2008 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst. She was born July 26, 1927 in Richmond County, a daughter of the late Ethel Lucille Ackerman and Jack Humber. Mrs. Bowles was employed for many years as a floral designer with Ethel’s Flower Shop. Prior to this, she was a telephone operator on the Manhattan Project. Mrs. Bowles was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockingham. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she was recently recognized as being a member for fifty years. She was a wonderful artist, and loved bowling, Nascar, cooking and her dogs. Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Don Bearfield officiating. Interment will follow in Eastside Cemetery. Surviving are a daughter, Stone Lee, and husband Wayne Victory of Charlotte; a close niece, Lucy McIntyre of Rockingham and a number of other nieces and nephews; and two people that were very special, Vickie Parker and Ron Jones, both of Rockingham. A sister, Lucy Kanipe, and two brothers, Ken Humber and Tommy Humber, preceded her in death. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and other times at the home.
